Winged Hydra

Also known as a "Three Headed Hydra"


A devastating Chimera Creation, the Winged Hydra is an attempt to make the most fearsome breed of dragon even more terrifying! Designed as an ultimate weapon, the intent of the Winged Hydra was to blend the flight capabilities and the intelligence of other dragons with the deadliness and regeneration of the Hydra. Exactly how they captured the dragons or the exact type of other dragon used in the experiment remain unknown, and at this point a historical triviality. What history does remember is the result.

Though the Chimera Circles were crafted masterfully, the experiment took an unexpected twist. Preparations were taken to subdue and control the Winged Hydra upon its creation, but no amount of planning and foresight could have prepared them for what happened next. When the finished product formed within the Chimera Key, it was not one Winged Hydra but three! Each of the three Winged Hydras possessed only three heads. How each of the three formed wings is yet another mystery, but it is believed to be connected to the amazing regenerative abilities of the Hydra that can even regrow missing limbs. There's still some debate if a nine-headed Hydra was used, or if up to two other dragons were used and two of the nine heads belong to different types of dragons.

Instead of gaining the intellect of the other dragon, the Hydras appeared more insane than ever, possibly a result of losing so many of its heads. The Winged Hydras destroyed everything in their path, including the Magi that created them. Even though notes were salvaged from the experiment, no one else has ever attempted to repeat it. This is considered a failed experiment, leaving only the original three remaining in the world. There are rumors that one of them was killed by a lone knight on horseback. Whether true or not, that doesn't change the fact that means there's still at least two more of these monstrosities out there somewhere.


Alignments: Diabolic and extremely insane.

Attributes: I.Q. 1D6+1, M.E. 2D6+3, M.A. 1D6+2, P.S. 2D6+18, P.P. 2D6+16, P.E. 2D6+10, P.B. 3D6+12, Spd. 3D6x10 running, or 1D6x10+20 flying.

Natural A.R.: 13.

Hit Points: 4D6x10, plus P.E. attribute number.


M.D.C.: 1D6x100+100.

Horror Factor: 18.

P.P.E.: 2D4x10.

Physical Appearance: Hideous monster dragon with three heads and massive wings. Due to the chimera process and being split into multiple bodies, the Three Headed Hydra is about half the size of its original counterpart.

Size: 12 feet (3.6 m) tall at the shoulder, 30 feet (9 m) long from head to tail, and 50 foot (15.2 m) wingspan.

Weight: 3D6 tons.

Average Life Span: Unknown.

Natural Abilities: Flight, nightvision 90 feet (183 m), see the invisible, exceptional hawk-like vision, turn invisible at will, track by smell 64%, recognize a familiar scent 40%, prehensile tail, resistant to fire and cold (does half damage, including M.D. magic fire and plasma energy), bio-regeneration 2D6 per melee round, dimensional teleport 20%, turn 4D6 dead at 77%, animate and control dead at 77%, and regenerates heads and limbs within 30 minutes! Note: Each head can act independently of the others and can ward off attacks from three sides at once. The I.Q. and mental attributes are the same for each head.

Attacks Per Melee: Seven total attacks, four physical and three by breath attacks (one for each head).

Damage: Bite inflicts 3D6 plus P.S. damage bonus or by breath attack.

  1. Dragon One
    • Head One, Fire Breath: Range 30 feet (9.1 m), six foot (1.8 m) wide blast inflicting 4D6 damage.
    • Head Two, Frost Breath: Range 30 feet (9.1 m), six foot (1.8 m) wide blast of magic cold inflicting 4D6+2 damage.
    • Head Three, Poisonous Vapors: Range 30 feet (9.1 m), six foot (1.8 m) wide blast paralyzing victims who breath the vapors for 1D6+2 melee rounds.
  2. Dragon Two
    • Head One, Fire Breath: Range 30 feet (9.1 m), six foot (1.8 m) wide blast inflicting 4D6 damage.
    • Head Two, Breath of Death: Range 15 feet (4.6 m), does 4D6+6 damage direct to hit points regardless of body armor and S.D.C.
    • Head Three, Cloud of Slumber: Range 30 feet (9.1 m), 4 foot (1.2 m) radius, victims sleep for 2D6 melee rounds.
  3. Dragon Three
    • Head One, Fire Breath: Range 30 feet (9.1 m), six foot (1.8 m) wide blast inflicting 4D6 damage.
    • Head Two, Corrosive Spray: Range 30 feet (9.1 m), 6 foot (1.8 m) wide spray that inflicts 4D6+10 damage.
    • Head Three, Psionic Evil Eye: Identical to the Bio-Manipulation psi-power. This head is also invulnerable to psionic and magic mind control. I.S.P.: 80.

Bonuses: +4 on initiative and unlikely to be surprise by attacks from behind, +4 to strike, +4 to parry and dodge, and +3 on all saving throws.

Magic: None.

Psionics: Only Dragon Three, head three has any psionic powers (and I.S.P. 80).

Allies: None per se, and will even attack fellow dragons.

Enemies: None per se, and some might say everybody!
