Short Stories

This page is here as a sample of my writing style. I included a few different stories, some are complete and some are just the beginning of the story (just enough to get you hooked), and some date back over 15 years and others (such as the Purifiers) are still ongoing. Each story is listed under one of four settings: Original Myth, Fantasy, Modern Setting, and Science Fiction. Once again, feel free to tell me what you think.

Original Myths

The Day of Darkness: This was the first myth I wrote.  I had to write it for my Latin class, but I did enjoy it.  Most of the people I know loved the concept, though I am told it isn't exactly a myth.  More like a fantasy story with the Roman gods.  It was written in either winter of 96 or spring of 97 (can't remember when exactly during the school year), so my style of writing has changed, but I think the story should still be good.  Oh, and for those of you interested, you can meet the character Prysus in there.  Granted, he's only a small part of the story, but he is the one that I took my name from.  I had some thoughts about writing a sequel to the story, but I lacked the motivation for it.  If you would like one, then I suggest you let me know.  Maybe I'll get off my lazy arse and do it.

  • Timeline:  Here are a few notes if you would like to include this into a game.  Basically, I added a timeline of when the events would take place in the Palladium Fantasy world and a bit of the myth that has been created around the incident.  Personally, I didn't use it in any of my campaigns because I didn't want to go rewriting all of the Palladium history (though I do like the story).

Invincible Roots: This was my second myth (and my last for that matter).  I wrote this one for my second year of Latin.  It follows a different hero and a different creation story.  This one is a bit shorter, but if you liked the first, I think you will like this one as well.  Also, instead of the Roman gods, I used the Greek ones this time.  I like the ending (of course I do, I wrote it) because it has a nice touch of irony to it.  You'll see when you read it.  The title was thought up by...well....someone who shall remain nameless.  I won't put his real name since I don't know if he would approve or not.  And I don't talk to him anymore so I don't know any online name.  But if you read this, you know who you are, so thanks.

The Purifiers: This is a serial fan fiction based in the Palladium Fantasy setting. I intend this to be an ongoing story, and will be updating it once a month (if all goes according to plan). I make no promises each update will be an entire chapter, but I'll try to get at least a page or two up each time. Note: Due to the growing size of the story, I've given the serial fan fiction its own page, and merely link to that from here. This prevents all the links from consuming this section and making the page difficult to navigate.

Psychic Knights: This is the beginning of a story.  There is clearly no ending.  It doesn't go very far before cutting off, but should be enough to get you rather interested.  It involves a group of characters known as the Psychic Knights and a mysterious enemy that is referred to briefly as the Mystic Armour of Rykar.  The main character is a psychic by the name of Virsat.  Note:  Be sure to read passed the Prologue otherwise you will think it is even shorter than it already is.

The Demon Hunter: Once again, this is more the beginning of a story than a complete tale.  However, it at least has a bit more of an ending (at least of one segment of the story).  If I continue it, I will most likely jump a couple months or so in the future.  The main character is a young boy named Tassik who desperately desires to become a Demon Hunter, a group that is the pride of his people.  However, after a bit of tragedy, he is faced with a difficulty decision.  Read to find out more.  Note:  Be sure to read passed the Prologue or you will miss the bulk of the story.

The Sword Bearer: It seems I like the beginning of stories only.  I don't know what to say.  At least, this one has a fairly decent ending.  Granted, there is clearly room to further the story.  It is about a character named Nimdae who has been having a series of weird dreams and sets off to try and figure out what they mean.  No prologue this time.

Modern Setting

Untitled: This is a short story (only a few paragraphs long) that I have no title for.  If you have any suggestions, I'd be more than glad to hear them.  It's only the beginning of a story.  It introduces the main character and part of the mystery (just enough to get you interested, not enough to tell you much).

Science Fiction

First Contact: I must confess that I don't write that much sci-fi anymore.  It was once all I thought about, but somehow my mind has slipped into more of a fantasy (you know, kings, knights, dragons, and all that other good stuff) style of thinking.  However, I wrote this one not that long ago.  Sometime near the beginning of 2003 I believe, maybe even as late as mid 2003.  It involves the first contact between two races and is merely the first in a small series of stories (okay, I only did two and then got lazy after the second one, but I did get some more work done since that time).  I was inspired to start writing it by something my eldest brother was doing at the time.  Oh, and I realize there the beginning of the story has certain similarities to The Day of Darkness myth, but I assure you it is quite different.

Intruder: Okay, this is the second part in the series.  This one has more segments.  For those that read my old site, you would know there were two different versions. Well I have done more work on them since, and actually went further with the story. I have still included them into sections with different titles for the sections.

The Coming Darkness: This is the latest part of the story. It's still not finished, in fact this is just the start of things to come. I don't work on the story often, but it is a pet project of mine and I get back to it every now and again. Hope you're enjoying up until this point.

Character Backstories

Similar in many ways to the general story category, but all of these stories were written specifically for a character in a campaign. These are all characters I played at one time or another, but have since been retired for one reason or another. This is not the story of the campaign and their actions within, but a backstory I created before ever playing the character to help flesh them out and give them life. Note: Due to the number of characters and specific focus of the stories, I have given it a separate page for ease of navigation.
