Jigsaw Demon

Supernatural Being

Jigsaw Demons are named such because of their deformed appearance, as if put together by a bunch of mismatched pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Their whole body is one big potluck of pieces, with perhaps one arm appearing human and the other appearing oversized and clawed. No two Jigsaw Demons look exactly alike, as each is seemingly composed from different pieces. This happens largely due to how Jigsaw Demons reproduce their numbers.

In order to create a new demon spawn, the Jigsaw Demon must first curse a group of mortals (minimum of six, but more is preferred). The curse can be transmitted through a bite, but for maximum effect the Jigsaw Demon prefers to spill its foul blood onto a source that a large amount of others will consume. Town drinking wells or the main dish at large feasts and celebrations are ideal targets. Those infected by the Jigsaw Demon's Curse will find themselves transforming into a demon.

This alteration is not complete though, and only a single limb will transform. The affected limb can be anything from the left arm to the right leg to a single ear or the person's whole head. How much of the body is affected changes from person to person, largely depending on how much of the demon's taint they consumed and their ability to resist the magic. The demonic transformation of the limb does not happen overnight, but over the course of three nights. Once afflicted though, the curse cannot be lifted until the Jigsaw Demon responsible is slain or one week after the first Harvesting is complete.

A single individual may be accused of witchcraft and being in league with demons, while an entire town may quickly turn on itself, each blaming one another as the cause. Such chaos is a delight for Jigsaw Demons, but not the true purpose of the curse. This is the method in which these beasts produce offspring. Once its targets transform, the Jigsaw Demon will be fast at work, literally tearing its victims limb from limb.

The demonic limbs are harvested and combined together like a jigsaw puzzle. When completed, the Harvesting will result in a new Jigsaw Demon that looks like its body has been sewn together. The magical energies the Jigsaw Demon uses to perform the Harvesting also drains energy away from maintaining the curse, causing it to fade over the next week until it's gone. If there are enough victims and enough remaining pieces, the Jigsaw Demon can attempt to harvest more limbs. Acting quickly enough, the Jigsaw Demon can produce an additional two demons (three total) before the curse wears off.
