Prysus Zier
Part One: Space Station Siren
Young Prysus Zier wakes up on the floor of the observation deck of the space station Siren. Though he is only twelve years of age, he finds that he is all alone in the room. He looks out the window and sees nothing but the vastness of space. There is supposed to be something there but he can't remember what. His head starts to pound when he tries to think about it.
The pain forces him to his knees, gripping his head in a feeble attempt to stop the pain. He is almost reduced to tears. Then, the pain just stops. Prysus stays there for a moment, trembling from the sensation. Finally he manages to pull himself off the ground and to his feet. His legs still tremble. This entire situation scares him. It all just seems so very wrong.
The lights in the room are dim, allowing barely enough light for him to see the rest of the room. He slowly moves over to the panel on the wall and tries to turn up the light. There is no response from the system. Prysus hurries to the door to try and get out of this place as fast as possible. When he opens the door, he notices the hallway has the same dim lighting. It looks as if the entire station is on emergency systems only.
There is an open panel in the hallway and a toolbox in front of it. He kneels down near the toolbox and picks up an old-fashioned looking wrench. There is a slight smile on his face as he knows it belongs to his father. Without thought, he puts it in his pocket as he starts to look around. He can't find his father in the nearby area and starts to call out, "Father?"
His father does not respond. No one else responds to the call either. It appears as if there is no one else there. He starts to head down one of the halls looking for any sign of other people. From another hall ahead, he can hear laughing. Prysus smiles and heads towards the sound. Finally he has found someone else. When he comes around the corner, the sight is not what he expected to find.
Blood is covering the floor of the hall. Standing over the butchered body of a crewman is another of the crew holding a knife of some type. The exact type isn't known to Prysus, but at that moment he isn't focusing too much on it. He is too overcome with fear. The laughing is coming from the crewman with the bloody knife. Prysus steps back in horror and bumps into the wall.
As Prysus hits the wall, the sound draws the attention of the killer. His head turns and looks at shaking kid who is too scared at the moment to move. The man's bloodshot eyes are wide open and locked onto Prysus. It feels as if they look directly into his soul. He has a wide grin as he grinds his teeth. The way this man looks at Prysus scares him to his very core. There is no doubt in the mind of Prysus; this man intends to kill him next.
Instinct takes over and Prysus runs. He doesn't know where he is going. All he knows is that he is going away from this killer. As he turns a corner his shoulder slams hard into one of the walls. If he wasn't so terrified it would have probably hurt, but he doesn't even feel it under the circumstances. From behind he can still hear the laughing echo through the halls. It is coming closer and closer.
Sweat trickles down his head and into his eyes. The sound of his heart beating begins to overwhelm the sound of the laughter. He is running so fast that his legs just can't keep up. They trip over each other and he goes tumbling to the ground. Prysus hits his head against the floor. It doesn't shake him up for very long as he soon looks back down the tunnel for any signs of the killer. If he was thinking, he would have just gotten back up and run. However, he stays there for a moment, looking and wondering.
For a moment, there is only the sound of him breathing heavily. Even the laughter of the killer is gone. Then he hears a voice call out, "Come out come out little boy." It is followed by some laughter. It causes Prysus to jerk and start back peddling as fast as he can until he hits a wall behind him. The voice then adds, "Oh, we're going to have so much fun."
Prysus uses the wall to pick himself up without ever turning around. While lifting himself, he hits a button with his elbow. It opens the door behind him causing him to fall back and into the room. Without hesitation, he leaps up and slams his hand against the button to close the door. Immediately after, he pulls out his father's wrench and starts slamming the control panel to hopefully break the lock mechanism so the mad man couldn't get in. Whether it worked or not is still unknown. He rests his head against the door. His body quivers, in part from the fatigue, but more so from fear.
Tears come from his eyes. His father always told him to be strong and not cry, but right now he's just so scared. He doesn't want to die. All he wants to do is find his father and get off this station and never come back. Finally he lifts his head and turns to look at the rest of the room. When he turns, his eyes suddenly widen and his lower lip trembles. There is a pool of thick red blood under a body hanging from the ceiling with hooks. His heart sinks as he mutters repeatedly, "No, no, no, no, please no." Then in a build up of pain and anger at the loss he screams out, "FATHER!!!"
Suddenly there is a loud clank. His scream stops suddenly as the look in his eyes goes blank. A large metal blade is sticking out through his chest. Unknown to Prysus at the time, the killer had managed to track him to the room. When he was unable to enter the door, he used some new type of blade. The blade not only pierced through the metal door, but straight through the back of Prysus and out the front of his chest.
The killer pulls up on the blade driving it downward within the body of Prysus. His mouth opens up, but no sound comes out, only a small trickle of blood. He slides off the blade and onto the floor. Blood drips onto the floor. There is a strong searing pain from the wound. It seems as if that is the last thing he would feel as the life drained from his body.
