Harkun
The Harkun are small insects from a different dimension. They are so incredibly small that their bodies are almost impossible to see with the average human eye. The only thing that makes these insects visible is the tremendous amount of light that they emit. This light is the equivalent of three torches. It is a soft green glow that is gentle on the eyes (cannot be used to blind).
They are always fluttering about and almost never land. The reason for their constant motion without tire is a mystery. They are often summoned to this world as a source of light by many summoners. The Harkun are usually kept in some sort of jars or globes to be carried around where needed. Most often, several are summoned at once to save time and to reserve their mystical energies.
Though the insects pose no threat themselves, there is a danger in summoning them. Their natural world is full of dangerous predators that often sneak through the portals opened to summon the Harkun. The reason these creatures are able to come through the portal is unknown, but they show an amazing resistance to mind control and are not affected by the protective force of the circles. The occurrence of these creatures is rare, but it is enough to make many summoners think twice.
A.R.: 8, this rating demonstrates their small size and difficulty to hit as opposed to a tough skin.
Hit Points & S.D.C. Combined: 1
Attacks Per Melee: 1, they have no offensive capabilities.
Damage: Incapable of causing any damage.
Bonuses: +3 on initiative and +5 to dodge (automatic).
Natural Abilities: Fly (100% -- I know, 98% is supposed to be the highest a skill can get, but there is precedent set in the Monsters and Animals sourcebook) and an natural instinct to sense danger (same as the Sixth Sense psionic ability).
Speed: 2
Average Life Span: 1D4 days, but reproduce asexually to constantly replenish their numbers. This is most often done only once, occasionally twice, within their lifetime.
Value: 50 gold as a source of light and 100 for alchemical purposes. GM's should be careful of Player Characters trying to take advantage of this for profit and take full advantage of the predators from this dimension if that is the case.
Habitat: Tend to migrate away from any other natural or artificial light in the area. They enjoy naturally dark areas, even though their presence will ultimately light it up.
Range: Through summoning only. They can be found just about anywhere.
Behavior: As stated above.
