Fire Hounds of Anubis

"There is an old gnomish saying, 'Anubis hath no fury like that of a woman scorned.' But after today's events, I must believe that whatever gnome said that had never seen one of these beasts, for if he had he would have seen the error of his words."

The above is an excerpt from the journal of the legendary Slayer of Demons, N'Hogosh. It was written after he was forced to slay one of these demons to protect a five year old elf boy from being killed by it. At the time, the creature was believed to have been sent by Anubis to seek vengeance for some act the town had committed against him. It is for that reason they are called the Hounds of Anubis. In truth, they are demons from another realm. Though it may be possible that Anubis summoned this demon to wreak his revenge, it seems highly unlikely.

The Fire Hounds of Anubis, even though they are not really Hounds of Anubis the name has stuck, are supernatural predators who appear as giant, four-legged, demonic beasts. They typically feed on humans and humanoid prey, but they are not bound to this diet. These beasts will attack any type of prey they find, including animals and even other demons. It is perhaps this fact that makes them so feared, even among many of the lesser demons.

At the shoulders they are about the size of an average human. Their skin is leathery and all black. Its eyes glow red and often look as if there is a fire burning within them. Constantly across its black skin small traces of flames erupt. These flames do not engulf them unless they become enraged, which can be easy enough for these foul tempered beasts. Typically, these flames are small and only scattered randomly across its body, though plentiful enough that it is likely to be seen by anyone looking.
