History: Overview

There are those who study the history of the world and its people (History). Those individuals have the benefit of additional knowledge on the world and their influence in the world.

The Role of Mortals

After "The War," as the gods know it, or "The War of the Gods" as it tends to be referred to by mortals, came the first notable history of mortals in the world. Before this time, mortals had been little more than a footnote with little more information on them other than they existed. Sometimes they played minor roles in the tale of a god, usually as a pawn. Though at times they also played love interests, the gods testing some mortal, or trying to steal a mortal's worship away from another god.

Sometime after the War of the Gods, how long after isn't clear, the godling Eclipse betrayed Sol. This is important because it is the first story that has a strong mortal hero, the Lightbringer. While this tale still has a heavy influence of the gods, the mortal isn't a secondary character. The Lightbringer is a center character that not only saves the mortals of the world, but also saves a god and plays a key role in the creation of Luna, who is considered a True God in every tale even though she is younger than many godlings and didn't participate in the War of the Gods.

While the history of mortals includes many wars, the most notable in mortal history is when the Crimson Empire launched a war against the world. The Crimson Empire refers to the war as the Holy War, but it is more commonly called the War of Blood. This war was not launched for power or land, but in an attempt to purge the land of magic in all its forms. Those who opposed them were not viewed as evil, simply ignorant and needed to be saved. Throughout history magic and the gods have caused ruin to the world, and the Crimson Empire felt it was their sacred duty to save the world by eliminating all magic.

In the end, the Crimson Empire was defeated by the combined powers of the world. Even in their defeat, the Crimson Empire did not lose all the territory it had conquered. In the War of Blood the Crimson Empire managed to take control over the entire Eastern Continent and hold onto a foothold on the Southern Continent. Despite being considered the losers of the war, after the war the Crimson Empire held the largest territory of any world power and still does to this day.
